Voices Through Time: Past, Present and Future

Celebrating 35 years of Oral Storytelling in Durham Region

We invited our members, friends, families, and community members to join us in celebrating 35 Years of Oral Storytelling in Durham Region on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 7:00 pm in Faith United Church, 1778 Nash Road, Courtice.

We heard from our guest elders Celia Lottridge from Toronto and our very own Micki Beck from Apsley, who shared stories about our past. We also enjoyed diverse storytelling and music, featuring members Enid DeCoe (Courtice), Doris Cherkas (Oshawa), Dianne Chandler (Port Perry), Jolly Abrakasa (Ajax), Heather Whaley (Bowmanville), Kim Michele (Pickering Frenchman's Bay), Roberta Anne Walker (Peterborough) and prelude music by harpist Angelica Ottewill (Havelock).

Durham Storytellers tables were set up with memorabilia dating back to the 1990s. We celebrated our past, present, and future! We told about how the art form of oral storytelling fits into nearly every aspect of life, from cultural preservation and education to personal connection and entertainment, serving as a fundamental human activity across all cultures and time.
